Argentina’s economy expanded by 2.0% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, easing from 2.3% in the previous quarter but surpassing market expectations of 1.6% growth. The strongest sectoral gains were recorded in fishing (44.7%), mining and quarrying (16.4%), and agriculture, livestock, hunting and forestry (6.9%). Additional increases were seen in electricity, gas and water (5.0%), financial intermediation (4.8%), and hotels and restaurants (1.6%).

By contrast, manufacturing output declined by 2.1%, while public administration and defense fell by 1.4%, representing the weakest sector performances. On the demand side, exports rose 13.7% year-on-year, providing the main driver of growth. Private consumption edged up by 0.4%, whereas public consumption contracted by 4.1%. Gross fixed capital formation shrank by 11.1%, and imports of goods and services declined by 8.6%. On a quarter-on-quarter basis, the economy fell by 0.6% in seasonally adjusted terms.
